Soren asks party to gear up for polls

Dumka: Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren on Thursday asked Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leaders and workers to get into poll mode for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “Get ready for the Lok Sabha polls. Now several political parties will come up with false promises. Don’t get carried away. Expose their inefficiency,” Mr. Soren said.

Addressing a meeting, Mr. Soren alleged that some political parties were luring people with money for getting their votes. “Don’t get swayed with this type of canvassing. Vote against corruption that the state witnessed during the governance of the erstwhile BJP-led NDA dispensation,” the JMM leader said.

He asked ministers, MLAs and party candidates who had finished second during the past elections to take responsibility in booth management.

Mr. Soren also asked the party workers to convince the people, particularly the tribals, to give up Hadia (a local brew) in the interest of their family’s prosperity. “Convey the message among them (tribals) that their social uplift and prosperity did not depend on consuming liquor, but pursuing traditional professions like agriculture and animal husbandry. The government will help them in this regard,” he told the party workers. The government has already directed to set up all-women self-help group to entrust it with distribution of rice at Rs. three and wheat at Rs.2 for the families living below the poverty line, Mr. Soren said.- PTI
