Six killed in landslips in Darjeeling

KOLKATA: Six persons were killed and more than ten were injured in the past two days in landslips that have ravaged the Darjeeling hills in West Bengal following heavy rains. The Army has been assisting in rescue operations, district officials said on Friday. Those killed include a school chowkidar, who was buried under the debris after shifting several school children to a safer place, in Lebong area of Darjeeling on Thursday. Five persons were killed in landslips that hit three villages in the Kalimpong sub-division, the officials said.

Several houses were abandoned and residents evacuated .
