Security beefed up for PM’s Kanpur visit

Kanpur: Security has been tightened in the city in view of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit on Friday to canvass for Union Minister of State for Home and Congress candidate from the Kanpur Parliamentary constituency Sriprakash Jaiswal, official sources said.

“A team of elite Special Protection Group (SPG) has been deployed in the city for the past three days. The district administration has also deployed five SP-level officers, six SSPs, 30 circle Inspectors, 43 police inspectors, eight companies of PAC,” SSP (City) Hariram Sharma told PTI.

The Prime Minister’s aircraft will arrive at Ahirvan airport around 4:55 pm from where he will move to address a rally in Motijheel, he said.
