JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has approved the second phase of a contingency plan for ensuring regular supply of drinking water to the scarcity-hit areas in the State during summer this year. Works valued at Rs.129 crore will be executed under the project.

According to the Public Health Engineering Department’s Chief Engineer M.K.M. Joshi, a large number of new bore-wells and hand-pumps will be installed as part of the contingency plan across the State.

The works to be undertaken in the rural areas will amount to Rs.82 crore, while those in the urban areas will be worth Rs.47 crore.

Mr. Joshi said drinking water would be transported to the areas where there is no permanent source of water.

Workers of the department will also deepen the wells and hand-pumps and replace faulty pump-sets, besides laying new pipelines for water supply. Mr. Joshi said private wells would also be hired for ensuring unhindered supply of water.
