Speakers recall Basu’s services, his ideals and concern for the poor and down-trodden



BHUBANESWAR: Rich tributes were paid to the memory of veteran Marxist leader and former Chief Minister of West Bengal late Jyoti Basu at a condolence meeting organised by the Orissa unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) here on Monday.

The leaders, who attended the meeting, spoke on various facets of Basu’s political career, his ideals and his concern for the poor and downtrodden.

Among others who spoke on the occasion include senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang, Union Minister Srikant Jena, Biju Janata Dal leader Baisnab Charan Parida, secretary of the Communist Party of India State unit Dikabar Nayak, president of Samajwadi Party Orissa unit Kailash Mishra, and secretary of the CPI(M) State Committee Janardan Pati.

The meeting was presided over by veteran CPI (M) leader Shivaji Patnaik.
