BERHAMPUR: Tension mounted at Paburia village under Sarangagada police station in Kandhamal district on Sunday when some Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans deployed in the area allegedly beat up two youths.

The local residents instantly observed a bandh and blocked the road protesting against the alleged attack. A public meeting was also organised. The villagers demanded the shifting of the CRPF camp at the village with the allegations that the CRPF jawans were involved in misbehaving with local people, including women. They also alleged that police were not allowing them to file complaint against the erring CRPF jawans. Extra police force from Raikia, Baliguda and Phulbani had to be rushed to the spot.

Sub-Divsional Police Officer (SDPO) of Baliguda Sudha Singh and an assistant commandant of the CRPF posted in Kandhamal district had to rush to the spot to pacify the angry villagers. The villagers could be calmed down after the CRPF commandant and CRPF personnel deployed in the area apologised for their misbehaviour. An FIR was filed against the jawan who had allegedly beaten up the two innocent youths.

On Sunday morning Gopal Nayak and Prakash Nayak had incurred the wrath of CRPF jawans camping at Paburia.

Their mistake was they had unknowingly crossed the field where the CRPF jawans were playing. It had enraged the CRPF personnel, who allegedly beat them up.

The local youth, traders and senior citizens got together to express their angst against the misbehaviour of CRPF jawans.
