Privilege motion against Chautala

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker H. S. Chatha on Friday admitted a privilege motion against former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Om Parkash Chautala.

The motion was moved by Congress MLA Kuldeep Sharma who said the Indian National Lok Dal chief had “misled'' the House on Thursday by making a false statement while participating in the debate on the Budget.

Mr. Sharma said Mr. Chautala had wrongly claimed that the State Government had “imposed VAT on salt''.

This amounted to contempt and breach of privilege, he added.

Even as INLD MLAs led by Mr. Chautala staged a walk-out, the motion was admitted and Mr. Chatha announced that it was being referred to the Privileges Committee which would give its report by the first week of the next session.

Meanwhile, BJP MLAs also walked out alleging that the BJP Legislature Party leader Anil Vij had not been given enough time to speak on the Budget.

Mr. Vij alleged that the Budget presented by Finance Minister Ajay Singh Yadav showed “false figures'' and was “directionless”.
