CUTTACK: ACP Suresh Chandra Ghosh of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate of Police was placed under suspension on Tuesday by the State government after a departmental committee on sexual harassment at workplace found him guilty.

Ghosh, DSP-ranked officer, was posted in Cuttack city and a woman constable of local Madhupatna police station had made sexual harassment allegations against the senior police official last week.

Departmental proceedings are also likely to be initiated against the erring official, according to sources.

Soon after the allegations were levelled, Cuttack city DCP A.N. Sinha handed over the case to the committee asking the latter to submit the reports quickly as the Commissionerate of Police was inclined to take action in the matter immediately in order to save it from further embarrassment.

After the committee submitted its report, which found the officer guilty, it was placed before the State DGP who in turn forwarded it to the State government for taking appropriate action.

The Home Department on Tuesday put Ghosh under suspension on the basis of the findings of the committee.
