‘Despite being a beginner, Nivedita Mohanty shows promise’

BHUBANESWAR: Ensemble, an exhibition of photographs by city-based aspiring photographer Nivedita Mohanty mounted at the Orissa Modern Art Gallery here has evoked rave response.

“Despite being a beginner and having no formal training in photography, she has shown enough signs of a promising photographer,” remarked Kali Prasad Mishra, well-known still photographer. Several others including gallery director and graphic artist Tarakant Parida aired similar views.

Brought up in Hyderabad and a post graduate in Information System from Osmania University, Nivedita, the daughter of an IAS officer, quit her cosy job with an IT major to plunge into professional photography. “I wish to specialize in still photography and I am preparing to join any reputed institute for formal training,” she revealed.

It was during an excursion to Kerala that the budding talent developed a keen interest in photography, she recollected. “Nature in its various hues attracted me a lot to capture on camera”, added the photographer who got an Honourable Mention Award in fine art in non-professional category in 2008 international photography competition.

The exhibition of 30 of her photographs was inaugurated by Bipasha Mohanty, director of Swosti Group of Hotels. It would be on view at the gallery till Sunday.
