CHANDIGARH: The people of Rohtak parliamentary constituency have voted overwhelmingly for “development” and “completely rejected the narrow, sectarian, casteist politics of the opposition parties as well as their unprincipled and opportunistic alliance”, said Deepender Singh Hooda on Saturday after retaining the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat with a record margin of over 445,736 votes.

Mr. Hooda, son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, acknowledged with deep gratitude the immense support of the people of the constituency. He dedicated his victory to his grandfather, the late freedom fighter Ranbir Singh and remembered him emotionally.

Declaring that the great victory of the Congress in Haryana would change the paradigm of politics in the State, he said his belief in politics of development had been reinforced. He added that the people of Haryana had endorsed the welfare policies of the Congress and the State Government headed by his father.

He said the people had dumped the opposition parties because of their “double-speak, anti-people politics and selfish and self-serving agenda”. At the Central level, Mr. Hooda gave credit to the visionary leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, able stewardship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and futuristic politics of Rahul Gandhi.
