Paswan alleges move to divide Dalit samaj

Patna: LJP president and former Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan on Saturday undertook a visit to the areas dominated by mahadalits in the Fulwarisharif constituency in Patna and inquire about their plight.

Mr. Paswan, accompanied by RJD spokesman Ramkripal Yadav, went to Balmi chak, Harni Chak, Ismailpur, Chilbili, Ganjpar, Palanga, Suitha and other Dalit-dominated tolas in the constituency and castigated the State government for its alleged move to “divide Dalit samaj“.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Paswan charged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with “failing” to provide houses to the mahadalits under the Indira Awas Yojana and benefits under other welfare schemes during the past four years of the NDA rule. “It is also unfortunate to note that despite CM’s announcement, not a single decimal of land has been given to mahadalit families... and the transistor which CM also promises to arrange for them are yet to made available,” he alleged.

Even the mahadalits have yet not been included in the list of BPL to draw ration and kerosene at subsidised rates, Mr. Paswan added.

“The Dalits are the worst-suffering lot in Bihar as they have been deprived of even basic infrastructure and schemes for their livelihoods,” he said. -PTI
