Passing-out parade for jail warders

Forty-third passing-out parade of jail warders took place at the Jail Training School in the city on Wednesday morning.

Inspector-General of State Prisons and Director of Correctional Services Pranabindu Acharya took salute at the parade in which 128 newly appointed jail warders took part.

The training had begun on November 12, 2009. Among the warders who passed out were 12 female warders. They were imparted physical, mental and theoretical training regarding management of jails during the training. They received training in yoga to calm their minds and training in handling arms.

Principal of the institute Bira Kishor Das said the training school established in 1984 had trained more than 2,400 jail officials.

It was still lacking infrastructure, he said. The principal urged the government to provide adequate lighting on the campus and to repair the two hostels.

There was also demand for enhancement of pay scale of warders working in State jails.
