Oil and gas conservation fortnight observed

PUDUCHERRY: Competitions, emission-check camps for vehicles and awareness programmes marked the Oil and Gas Conservation fortnight from January 15 to 31.

As per the directions of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, GAIL (India) Limited, which has its Cauvery Basin regional head office in Puducherry, observed the fortnight.

According to a release, GAIL (India) Limited conducted a live quiz programme on television and discussion in All India Radio. Competitions such as essay writing and drawing were organised in select schools in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mayiladuthurai and Ramnathapuram. Prizes were distributed to students.

In the opening meeting on January 15, DGM of GAIL Cauvery Basin Dinabandhu Soren stressed the need for judicious use of fossil fuel as the stocks of these precious fuels were limited. He spoke on creating awareness among general public and children to obtain the desired results.

As part of the fortnight, free emission-checking and engine-tuning camps for two-wheelers and four-wheelers were conducted for two days in several areas in Puducherry and Karaikal. It was sponsored by GAIL. Programmes were conducted to create awareness of conservation of oil and gas by its efficient use, reducing wastage and its impact on environment and economy. Officials of GAIL spoke on the need for conservation of oil and gas for a better future and improved environment in schools.
