Naxalites blast school building

BERHAMPUR: Portions of a newly constructed school primary building fell prey to the wrath of Maoists at Rajulkonda village in Malkangiri district. According to sources naxals used landmines to blast the newly constructed school building at the village under MV79 police station area. A portion of the building was damaged. The school building was constructed at cost of around four lakh rupees.

It is reported that the naxals blasted the building on Jan 27 night. But the fear of naxals in the area could be assessed from the fact that the incident could be assessed from the fact that none from the village preferred to report this incident to police.

The blast came to the fore after four days. The incident speaks of the lack of intelligence network of the police in remote areas of Malkangiri district. The reason behind the destruction of school building is not known.

It is suspected that naxals blasted it thinking the building could be used by the police for camping during combing operations in this remote area.
