Even region-wise figures show they are ahead

PONDICHERRY: The Union Territory of Pondicherry has a total of 6,49,524 voters spread over all the 30 Assembly constituencies. The highlight of the voter strength is that women voters outnumber their male counterparts. 3,34,765 women voters against 3,14,759 men, who are going to the Assembly polls conducted in two phases. (Mahe and Yanam together having three constituencies would have the poll on May 3 in the first phase while Pondicherry (with 21 segments) and Karaikal (with remaining six constituencies) would have the poll on May 8).

Women voters exceed male voters even region wise. Pondicherry region has a total voter strength of 5,01,477 out of which 2,56,546 are women and remaining 2,44,931 voters are male electorate.

The break of up of voters in Karaikal region is: 53,348 women voters against 49,119 men; Mahe: 15,282 female voters against11,622 men.

Yanam having only one Assembly segment has the strength of 9,589 women against 9,087 men voters.

Raj Bhavan constituency, the smallest segment in the region (in the context of total voters strength), which has a total strength of just 5091 voters: 2381 men against 2710 women voters.

Lawspet constituency is the biggest constituency in the Union Territory with 51,214 voters out of which women voters number 26,032 as against 25,182 men.

Although the strength of voters in the Union Territory is not so big as one could come across in bigger States, but the strain and stress for the poll contestants is however the same. So even on normal days political parties would strive to ensure that no section of the voters got displeased or unhappy either with the parties or their representatives.
