“We will discuss with Industries Minister and Chief Minister”

PUDUCHERRY: Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy on Saturday told reporters that he would hold discussions with the Chief Minister and the Industries Minister to decide on the demand of Anglo French Textile (AFT) mill workers seeking implementation of dearness allowance under the Central government pattern on a par with the administrative staff.

“We will discuss the issue with Industries Minister E. Valsaraj on January 28 and Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam on February 3. A final decision will be taken by February 10. All demands of the mill workers will be considered during the discussions,” he told reporters after meeting the protesting workers.

The workers had been refusing entry to staff and officers inside the premises for the last four days.

Mr. Kandasamy, who is also Labour Minister, said that the mill workers had been demanding parity in dearness allowance.

They had planned a black flag protest on the Republic Day but dropped the idea following his assurance.

“They have promised to work for increasing the production at the mill and generate profit. In fact, production has increased in the mill in the last four days. Modernisation of the mill is the next step,” Mr. Kandasamy said.

Managing Director of Pondicherry Textile Corporation G. Theva Neethi Dhas was present.
