Police rescue two-year-old daughter of Sarada from New Delhi

BERHAMPUR: A police team led by Inspector incharge of the Women's Police station of the city, Bidyutlata Nayak arrested a New Delhi-based lawyer S. Srinivas Rao on charge of dowry harassment. They also rescued Rao's two-year-old daughter whom he had allegedly separated from her mother.

The arrested lawyer was forwarded to court. Other members of his family, who are residents of Digaphandi area of Ganjam district, are absconding.

According to Ms Nayak, wife of the lawyer S. Sarada was being mentally and physically tortured by her husband and in-laws. A few months back Rao had allegedly sent back his wife to her parents in Berhampur keeping back her two-year-old daughter in New Delhi. As per the findings of the police team in New Delhi, Rao was also allegedly harassing the small child. The rescued child was handed over to her mother.

Complaint lodged

The victim alleged that her husband and in laws were demanding extra dowry after her marriage. As per the complaint lodged at the women's police station physical and mental torture on her had increased during last two years as she was being blamed for giving birth to a girl child. She also alleged that her husband had used force to get her sign on some blank stamp papers.

But her husband alleged that his wife was trying to harass him legally although she had already filed a divorce case. Ms Sarada and her family claim the divorce documents were made from blank documents signed by Sarada.
