CHANDIGARH: The former Haryana Director-General of Police, S.P.S. Rathore, was granted interim bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for the second time in the 1990 molestation case trial here on Monday.

The court has given Rathore bail till the next hearing. Also, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been directed to give Rathore four days’ notice in case it needs him for interrogation or decides to arrest him.

The CBI lawyer told the court it needed more time to file a reply to the plea on quashing the first information reports (FIRs) on abetment to suicide.

Rathore had filed a plea seeking anticipatory bail for all three fresh FIRs filed against him, first by the Haryana police and later by the CBI — abetment to suicide, fudging post-mortem reports and fabricating false charges against the brother of the victim — and had sought quashing of these FIRs.

He was convicted of molesting a 14-year-old in 1990. The budding tennis player committed suicide in 1993.
