The body was recovered from a jungle

BERHAMPUR: The death of a headmaster under mysterious circumstances has attained political colour with the Congress and the BJP in Nabarangpur district of south Orissa have started fanning the issue with the allegation that it was a case of murder. However, according to the police sources, nothing can be ascertained till the post-mortem report of the headmaster is received.

The Congress activists observed a bandh at Raighar. Both the BJP and the Congress have threatened to intensify their agitation demanding arrest of the persons behind the ‘murder' of the headmaster.

At a joint press conference, the Congress and the BJP leaders alleged that the headmaster had fallen victim to the extortionists who collect money from headmasters of schools having hostels in Raighar block. They alleged these extortionists had a tie-up with the local BJD leaders and some officials.

The body of Ghanashyam Gondo, the headmaster of an upper primary school at Biripur village of Raighar block was recovered from a jungle near Otenda village in adjoining Chhattisgarh on Friday.

He was missing since March 7. The Congress and the BJP activists allege that the headmaster was kidnapped and murdered by a group of BJD supporters.

Wife's charge

The victim's wife in her FIR stated that Gondo had left home for the last time after receiving a phone call from local Welfare Extension Officer (WEO) Manoj Kumar Baral on March 7.

After that he did not return. She also alleged that the local Block Development Officer (BDO) had asked her not to lodge any FIR in the police station.
