Haryana selected for ISRO project

CHANDIGARH: Haryana is one of the five States selected under the Remote Sensing and GIS Application Project -- Space Based Information Support for Decentralised Planning (SIS-DP) -- of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), State Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati said here on Monday.

She further disclosed that Haryana had been selected for implementation of the project in the first phase besides Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Kerala and West Bengal.

Geo-spatial platform

The project will provide a geo-spatial platform involving local bodies to carry out development activities under Panchayati Raj in a decentralised, speedy and transparent manner.

“It will also include thematic mapping of the State,” he added.

The project will be executed and supported by the Haryana Space Application Centre and ownership of the data base and resource information will be with the respective line departments. ISRO will act as enabler for the programme by providing satellite imageries, technical guidance, technical manual preparation and establishment of knowledge centre.
