Film awards presented

BHUBANESWAR: The annual awards for Oriya films instituted by the 33-year-old Oriya film magazine Chalachitra Jagat were presented at a special ceremony at Rabindra Mandap here on Sunday.

Eminent singer Sikandar Alam was conferred the Netai Palit Samman instituted in memory of the pioneering filmmaker. The Samman, the highest among all the honours and awards instituted by the publication, is meant for lifetime achievement by anyone associated with the film industry.

Of the 18 films released during 2009, Akase ki ranga lagila was awarded as the most popular film while Mitare Mita was adjudged as the critics' best choice. Producers and directors of both the films were honoured on the occasion. Buddhaditya and Archita emerged as the best actor and the best actress of the year.
