JAIPUR: Preparations for “Stonemart-2009” – a four-day international stone exhibition beginning here on January 8 – are in full swing at Sitapura industrial area near here. The event organised every year is the biggest exposition of the stone industry that showcases the world of natural stones, ancillary products and services.

The Centre for Development of Stones (CDoS) – the main organiser of the expo – expects to break the existing records by established an emphatic presence of Stonemart-2009 not only in terms of the number of visitors but also through the number of opportunities it would engender.

CDoS Chairman B.N. Sharma said here on Saturday that the exposition would assume strategic and competitive importance for all of those concerned with the stone industry in India and abroad. “It is an all encompassing event that brings together everyone, across the seven seas, connected with the stone industry within its ambit.” Mr. Sharma pointed out that India – producing 27 per cent of the total stone output in the world and having a sizeable 11 per cent share in the total global export – was “uniquely positioned” to stage an event which was slated to become the largest expo on stone industry anywhere in the world.

The exhibition will be the fifth in the series being organised every year since 2005 jointly with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and supported by the Rajasthan Government.
