BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railway (ECoR) here on Saturday launched German LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches, which would be introduced in the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express from Sunday.

According to ECoR, these coaches are different from the Indian coaches. “These are longer than the existing coaches by 1,770 mm and have been designed for speed of 160 kmph with the capacity of increasing the speed to 200 kmph if required. Besides, the coaches are light in weight with higher passenger comfort.

Special features

“The special feature of the coach is its higher carrying capacity. LHB coach will have 24 berths in AC first class as against 18 berths made by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), 52 berths in AC two-tier as against 48 in ICF coaches and 72 berths in AC 3-tier as against 64 in ICF coaches,” an ECoR release said here.

There are luggage racks of modern design with integrated lamps for all seats and the coaches are of superior framing design and corrosion free and also vibration proof.

“The coaches are made of fire retardant materials. Controlled discharge toilet system has been introduced in these coaches. Bigger windows and modern interiors with improved air-conditioning system have also been introduced,” it said.

Railway Board Chairman K. C. Jena is scheduled to flag off the Bhubaneswar-Rajdhani Express with the inducted new LHB German design coaches at Bhubaneswar railway station.

Frequency increased

Meanwhile, the frequency of the 2421/2422 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express has been increased from bi-weekly to tri-weekly with effect from January 31.

In another communication, ECR said the 8303/8304 Puri-Sambalpur-Puri Intercity Express will run daily with effect from February 1. Presently, this train was running six days a week except Sunday, it said.
