DAV withdraws fee hike notice

CUTTACK: It was a moral victory for DAV School Parents’ Association in the State when the State DAV management told the High Court on Tuesday that they had withdrawn the April 20 school fee hike notification.

The HC on the day also dropped its proposed initiation of contempt proceedings against the Regional Director of DAV Schools Himansu Sekhar Mohanty following the latter’s unconditional apology to the court for defying the court orders.

However, no decision on fee hike structure for English medium schools in the State could be taken as the court adjourned the hearing of the main petition to July 19.

Despite a stay on fee hike ordered by the HC and the matter still pending disposal, the DAV management came out with a notification asking the parents to pay the school dues at a higher rate than the previous year. Besides, the notice had warned parents that the names of the defaulters would be struck off school rolls.

Taking exceptions to the notice, the single-judge bench of Justice M M Das had directed the RD to appear in the court in person.

The HC was not satisfied with Mr. Mohanty’s earlier explanation on May 13 and he was asked to furnish a fresh explanation on May 19 while slapping a stay on the operation of the April 20 circulars of the schools.
