It is planning to hold a brain-storming session with block-level leaders of the party: Sahu

BERHAMPUR: The State unit of the Congress would start reorganising and revitalising its block and district level units during next two weeks as preparations for the coming polls, said the newly-appointed working president of Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Chandra Sekhar Sahu.

Mr Sahu, who is Union Minister of State for Rural Development, happens to be one of the three working presidents of the OPCC. He would be in-charge of electoral matters in south Orissa. After taking charge of the party post, Mr Sahu reached Berhampur, his parliamentary constituency on Sunday. He was greeted by a solemn rally by his supporters as the period of state mourning in honour of former president R.Venkatraman continues.

Speaking to newsmen at the Congress office in the city, Mr Sahu said the time in hand before the elections was short, so it was decided to revitalise the grass root level organisations as early as possible. He hinted that representatives from all block and district level units would be invited for a State-level brain storming session before the polls during next few days. Mr Sahu said in south Orissa he has decided to plan the electoral strategies taking parliamentary segments as units. It would enable the campaigns to be local issue and general public oriented. He has also proposed party workers’ meets at every parliamentary constituency in south Orissa which would be attended by party Central leaders as motivators.

Asked about the trend of defections before any election, Mr Sahu said any one was welcome to the Congress if he or she accepted the policies of the party and ideologies of its leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It may be noted that Mr Sahu holds key responsibility as he is also chalking out electoral strategies for Ganjam district, home district of the BJD chief and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
