Chandigarh: Daughter of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh was denied permission for the second day on Saturday to enter the Burail jail premises, where a special court was to announce the quantum of punishment to convicts of her father’s murderers.

Gurkanwal Kaur, also a former Congress Minister, was denied permission to enter the premises yesterday when the court pronounced the verdict yesterday.

“I sought the permission of Inspector General and SSP Chandigarh to allow me to enter into the court but I was not given permission to do so,” said Ms. Kaur told reporters outside the jail.

Ms. Kaur said that she would apprise the Administrator of Chandigarh of the entire situation.

“It appears that the atmosphere is quite volatile and it could lead to tension any time,” she said.

Demanding strict punishment against the convicted persons, Ms. Kaur said that the Government led by her father played a vital role in bringing peace to the State. PTI
