Basant Muduli's poetry celebrated

Nearly a quarter century after his untimely death, Basant Muduli is still being acknowledged as a pioneering and powerful poet with a distinct voice of Oriya poetry. This was the unanimous opinion of the prominent writers who addressed the 23 {+r} {+d} annual Kabi Basant Muduli Smruti Samaroha (memorial celebration) in the Capital.

Hosted by the Basant Muduli Smruti Samsad at the Jayadev Bhawan here, the literary event was inaugurated by former Sahitya Akademi president and prominent poet Ramakant Rath who fondly recollected the writer who passed away early in life in a tragic road accident. Addressing the occasion, eminent writer Brajanath Rath felt that the late poet had shown all the signs of giving a new dimension and direction to Oriya poetry.

Parliamentarian and translator Baishbnab Charan Parida, Akademi awardee poet Pratibha Satapathy and editor of Kahani literary magazine Bijay Nayak also spoke on the literary genius of Muduli.

Fiction writer Rajanikanta Mohanty and the late poet's son Partha Sarathi Muduli also spoke. Smruti Samsad president Pabitra Panigrahi presided.

Basant Muduli poetry prize for the years 2009 and 2010 were presented to young and talented poets Sitansu Lenka and Manoj Meher on the occasion.
