Badambadi clash: constable, home guard suspended

CUTTACK: As part of its damage control measure, Cuttack city police on Friday suspended a traffic constable and a home guard, who had allegedly manhandled a van driver leading to police-public clash near Badambadi bus terminus on Wednesday night. At least 20 persons, including some policemen were injured in the clash and some police vehicles were torched by an irate mob. “On the basis of a complaint lodged by the driver we have registered a case and suspended constable Ganeswar Apat and home guard Rashmi Ranjan Pradhan,” said DCP A N Sinha. The home guard has been served a show-cause notice as to why his services would not be terminated, the DCP disclosed.

Besides, the city police have also identified as many as four constables, who have served as traffic men in the city for over two years. “These constables have been transferred and we have found out their replacements. We are also making a similar exercise to identify the home guards, who have worked in the traffic for more than two years and their duties would be rotated”, Sinha added.

On the other hand, police have arrested 24 persons on charges of creating vandalism, attacking police and damaging public property.
