A true democrat, says Governor

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai on Sunday expressed deep sense of sorrow on the death of renowned freedom fighter Ranbir Singh Hooda, father of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

In his condolence message, Dr. Kidwai described him as an able Parliamentarian and a legislator, a popular minister, a diligent social worker and a true democrat who served the country in many capacities.

The Governor said that with his death, the country had lost the only surviving member of the Constituent Assembly of India. Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda had always strived hard to follow the ideals of democracy and higher values throughout his life.

Condoling the death, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian said the departed soul was a great freedom fighter who was imprisoned many times for participating in nationalist movements. Besides being the lone surviving member of Constituent Assembly, he was also a member of the Provisional Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Haryana Finance Minister Birender Singh, Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav, Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta, Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dharamvir Singh also condoled the death. They described him as an embodiment of sacrifice, selfless service and struggle.
