A disappointing Budget for Himachal: Dhumal

Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA: Describing the Union Railway Budget as “disappointing”, Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Wednesday said the Centre had ignored the interests of the people of the State once again.

The Chief Minister said non-inclusion of a new Bhanupali-Beri-Mandi-Kullu-Manali-Leh rail line in the Budget proposals, for which the Himachal Government had been pleading for a long time, was an act of injustice to the hill State and dangerous for the country’s security and defence.

“Our neighbour China has constructed a railway line from Bejing to Lhasa and is expanding rail and road networks towards India. On the other hand, India is ignoring the construction of this rail line of strategic importance which is unfortunate,” Mr. Dhumal added.

Hooda thanks Mamata

Chandigarh Special Correspondent adds:

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has praised the Railway Budget and thanked the UPA Government for accepting the State’s demand to provide more facilities for the people.

Mr. Hooda lauded the Centre for not increasing the rail fares and said the decisions to raise a Mahila Vahini for the security of women passengers and deploy ex-Servicemen to strengthen the RPF were praiseworthy.
