BHUBANESWAR: It was a belated Children’s Day celebration with a difference here on Sunday. Though the occasion was meant for children, parents outnumbered them. Tiny tots got a chance of rare outing with their parents.

City-based day care and play school group - The Creche, organised the event keeping in view that parents could also join the party.

Attired in red dresses, the childrenpresented cultural programmes, which lightened up the faces of their parents.

Huge demand

As the number of working parents has increased in the city, the concept of day-care centres is fast catching up.

“Since both of us work, it becomes difficult to spend quality time with our son. There is nobody in the home to keep eye on my kid. Moreover, day-care centres ensure safety of child,” K. Ravi, an employee of Council of Higher Secondary Education, said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by I. Vijaya, a mother. “The biggest concern for working parents is care and education of children.

Crèches ensure quality growth of the kid,” Ms. Vijaya said.

Bhagyalaxmi Mishra, who runs The Creche, said, “We are experienced mothers. We started the centre with two kids in 2001 on experimental basis, now we have around 80 children.”

“This is home away from home. ,” Namita Mishra, who is one of the founder of The Creche, said.

With BPO centres coming up in the city, plans are being made to start childcare centres in evenings as well.
