Waiver of bank loan urged for orphaned kids

NEW DELHI: Bhartiya Janata Party member S.S. Ahluwalia on Thursday urged the Government to use its good offices to ask a private bank to waive the loan taken by the father of two children orphaned in the October serial bomb blasts South Delhi.

Raising the issue during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Ahluwalia said the two school-going children — Ranya (13) and Hardik (10) — lost their parents as the result of the bomb blast in Sarojini Nagar in Delhi on October 29. The father had taken a loan of Rs. 7 lakhs from HDFC Bank to build a house. Even after his passing away the bank has been knocking at their door for payment of instalments and is threatening to attach the land. "Are human values and humanity dead in the country?" he asked.

Mr. Ahluwalia said the bank should be asked to waive the loan on "sympathetic grounds".
