NEW DELHI: Two young men have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly abducting a 42-year-old woman outside St. Stephen's Hospital and murdering her at Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh on March 30.

According to the police, Meenu Gupta's body was found dumped in fields at Baghpat on April 1. On June 12, the Crime Branch received a tip-off that two persons involved in the case were staying in Lampur village at Narela and were planning to dispose of Meenu's jewellery. The Crime Branch laid a trap and arrested Rajesh and Vinod.

During interrogation, Rakesh allegedly disclosed that Meenu had taken Rs. 50,000 from him promising him a government job.

However, when she neither returned the money nor fulfilled the promise, Rakesh, with his brother-in-law Vinod, conspired to abduct and kill her. They arranged an Ambassador car for the purpose.

On March 30, they called Meenu outside St. Stephen's Hospital on the pretext of giving her more money for the job. They then drove her towards Baghpat. Somewhere on Loni Road, the duo consumed liquor and made Meenu drink juice laced with sedatives. The accused then took her to a deserted place and strangled her with her "dupatta".

Both collected Meenu's ornaments, chain and mobile phone and fled from the scene.
