Three held for cheating

NEW DELHI AUG. 10. Three persons allegedly involved in separate cases of cheating were arrested by the Connaught Place in New Delhi today.

In first case, the Joint Director of Old Industry Safety Directorate of Ministry of Petroleum, reported that he had been cheated of Rs. 60,000. He said he had given a cheque for Rs. 10,000 to his peon, Vijay, to get it encashed.

However, when he checked his bank account, he found that instead of getting the Rs. 10,000 cheque encashed, Vijay stole another cheque leaflet and encashed Rs. 70,000 along with his accomplice, Prahlad Singh. Both were arrested and the money recovered from their possession.

In the second case, Sunil Kumar, an accountant with the United Air Service, was arrested for allegedly cheating the company of Rs. 3.63 lakhs. He used to make false entries in the company's account books and prepared cheques to deposit in his bank account. Further investigations into his other involvements are on.

Criminal nabbed

A Haryana-based criminal was arrested with a pistol of Italian make at Kanjhawla in North-West Delhi on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap at Jonti Y- point and intercepted a Maruti Zen in which the criminal, Umesh, was travelling. Umesh opened fire at the police party but was overpowered. A pistol of Italian make and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

The car was found to have been stolen from Bahadurgarh. During interrogation, Umesh disclosed that he was involved in a murder case and a robbery case at Sonepat.


A 24-year-old man was attacked by around six young men at Alipur in North-West Delhi.

The victim, Manish, is a B.A. final year student of Swami Shradhanand College. He was attacked allegedly by Vikas, Vineet, Situ and three others. The accused were armed with knives and rods. Manish sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body. He was admitted to Prashant Nursing Home. A case of attempt- to-murder has been registered and a hunt launched for the accused.

Crushed to death

A unidentified pedestrian was crushed under the wheels of an unknown vehicle at New Friends Colony in South Delhi this morning.

The incident took place opposite the Central Road Research Institute on Mathura Road. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at New Friends Colony police station and efforts are on to identify and arrest the erring driver.

Two arrested

Two persons allegedly involved in cases of murder and robbery were arrested at Khajuri Khas in North-East Delhi. A countrymade firearm, a live cartridge and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Dharmender and Pradeep. During interrogation, Pradeep confessed to his involvement in a robbery of Rs. 2.86 lakhs from a scooterist, which he committed along with his accomplices, Manoj, Mahesh and Wakil Ahmed. The duo were also involved in other cases of robbery.
