Sheila hails EC move

NEW DELHI JUNE 26. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today lauded the Election Commission directive asking for suspension of eviction and demolition drives in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram.

Describing the directions from the Election Commission as a vindication of the stand taken by her Government vis-a-vis the issue of demolition, relocation and rehabilitation of slums in the Capital, Ms. Dikshit said the decision was in the interest of free and fair polls.

Stating that her Government was also keen to maintain the fidelity of the electoral rolls so that the forthcoming elections to the Delhi Assembly could he held without any hitches and the citizens were not deprived of their right to vote, Ms. Dikshit asserted that with this decision in place the Bharatiya Janata Party will not be able to play politically motivated games of shifting voters with the help of the Central Government- controlled Delhi Development Authority according to their suitability.
