Ram Babu holds meeting with party MPs and MLAs on ongoing demolitions

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Saturday held a meeting with Congress Members of Parliament and legislators to deliberate on the ongoing demolitions drive in the Capital, unauthorised constructions and closure of shops in residential areas. Senior Congress legislator and member of the Tejinder Khanna Committee, S. C. Vats, was among those present at the meeting.

Mr. Sharma sought a feedback from the elected representatives on what was the best solution that could emerge to resolve the present problems being faced by the people of Delhi.

Dr. Vats had a detailed interaction with the MPs and MLAs to elicit their views in order to incorporate the same in the report that is going to be submitted in three months.

Mr. Sharma said that with the Congress heading the goernment both in Delhi and at the Centre, the people of Delhi were looking towards it for resolution of these issues. Stating that the party had always worked for the interest of the people, Mr. Sharma said he was confident that under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi a favourable decision would emerge during the next few months.

The DPCC president said he had been holding regular discussions with various sections and had raised the matter in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha that made it possible for the resolution to be passed in favour of a solution. The Congress, he said, had always worked for rehabilitation of people and never uprooted them and this time around also it would ensure that a practical solution is found.

Mr. Sharma said he was confident that with a young and energetic Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken at the helm of affairs in Delhi, things would be worked out to the satisfaction of one and all. He also spoke out in favour of finding a solution to the plight of the rehri and patri traders.

Prominent among those who took part in the deliberations were former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, Krishna Tirath, Tajdar Babbar, Mahabal Mishra, Vijay Lochav, Leader of the House in MCD Jitender Kumar Kocchar and MCD Standing Committee leader Mukesh Goel. Besides, a large number of other MLAs and Councillors also participated in the discussions.
