Rain claimed four lives in Uttar Pradesh and forced officials to issue an alert in Uttarakhand as the monsoon remained fairly active in North India on Wednesday.

Delhiites had a much comfortable day with the maximum temperature settling at 34.7 degrees, nearly 4 notches lower than Tuesday's. The minimum was recorded at 28.8 degrees.

Light to moderate rain continued to lash most parts of Uttarakhand with Chamoli recording the maximum rains of 56 mm followed by Kashipur with 53 mm.

The weatherman has issued warning of heavy rain in most parts of Kumaon and a few parts in Garhwal during the next 24 hours.

The rain might also trigger landslides in hilly areas, he said. According to official statistics, 19 people have been killed so far in various rain-related incidents in the hill State.

At least four persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as rain lashed most parts of the State in the past 24 hours.

According to a Central Water Commission report, majors rivers including the Ghagra, Ganga, Rapti and Sharda are on the rise.

People continue to move out from low-lying areas in Lakhimpur, Barabanki, Gonda and Bahraich where water has entered villages.

Meanwhile, the day temperatures in Punjab and Haryana again settled a few notches above normal.

Hisar in Haryana at 39 degrees was hotter by three notches than its normal range, followed by Ambala 34.6 and Karnal at 33.6 .

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded 36 degrees, followed by Ludhiana and Patiala (35 each). The maximum temperature settled at 34.2 in Chandigarh.

Light to moderate rainfall lashed parts of Rajasthan in the morning. The weatherman said isolated areas might receive thundershowers during the next 24 hours. - PTI
