Power cuts in Capital

NEW DELHI DEC. 7. Several parts of the Capital experienced power cuts today, which the discom officials attributed to local faults. All these were attended immediately and fault rectified in most of the cases, they said.

Residents of Karol Bagh complained that there was no electricity in their colony for over two hours this afternoon. "Yesterday also we had power cuts for the same duration. We had a better power situation during the election period. But load-shedding has reappeared now that the elections are over,'' alleged K. L. Kapoor.

In the Laxmi Nagar, Patparganj and Mayur Vihar areas of East Delhi, residents complained of erratic power supply since Saturday. "After a bad summer, last few months were a bit comfortable on the power front. But from Saturday, we have been experiencing frequent load-shedding three to four times a day and each time for at least an hour,'' said Rakesh Arya, a resident of Mayur Vihar.

Complaints of power cuts were received from the residential areas in Kalkaji, Tughlakabad, Nizamuddin, Madangir, Mehrauli, Palam, and rural areas of Outer Delhi. Officials of the discom said the demand of power had increased over the past few days with the drop in the minimum temperature, but the supply was still sufficient. At the same time, officials conceded that there had been local faults in certain parts of the Capital due to this sudden increase in demand resulting in overburdening of the system.
