“Plug leakages of river waters”

Rajasthan Minister of State for Agricultural Marketing Gurmeet Singh Kunnar has asked the water supply officials of the neighbouring State of Punjab to plug the leakages in Ravi-Beas waters supplied from Harike Barrage to northern parts of the State for irrigation.

Mr. Kunnar said during his visit to Harike Barrage on Saturday that leakage or theft of irrigation waters adversely affects farmers in Rajasthan. “Though the rainfall has [so far] been satisfactory, farmers should get full share of the Ravi-Beas waters for their agricultural needs.”

According to an official release here, Mr. Kunnar said a joint team of irrigation officers from both the States would monitor the arrangements, inspect the canals and resolve technical problems. He said the lining work at Ferozepur feeder would be completed by January next year.

The Minister also asked the officials concerned to speed up the work for cleaning and repairing of the Bikaner canal to facilitate the release of full quantity of water in it.
