‘Launch campaign to plant fruit-bearing trees'

Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Harjiram Burdak on Wednesday gave instructions to the horticulture officers in the State to launch a campaign for planting of fruit-bearing trees to reap the benefits of good monsoon rains this year.

Addressing a review meeting at Pant Krishi Bhavan here, Mr. Burdak said the farmers and private nursery owners should be supplied with plants of good quality and made aware of the need for establishment of gardens in remote areas.

“A long-term planning is required in Rajasthan for promoting the horticulture activities in tune with the State's ecology,” said Mr. Burdak. He also reviewed the availability of plants in the nurseries managed by the State Government's Horticulture Department.

According to an official release here, the Minister asked the horticulture officers to ensure progress of the National Horticulture Mission, national agriculture development scheme, National Micro-Irrigation Mission, National Medicinal Plants Mission and action plan devised for horticulture sector under the State Plan.
