‘BJP double standards on sealing exposed'

NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in Municipal Corporation of Delhi Jai Kishan Sharma has criticised the BJP-led MCD for allegedly making “false promises about stopping sealing and demolition” while going ahead with it in the Capital.

“Three years ago during the MCD elections, the BJP made false promises to Delhiites that they would extend relief to the citizens by stopping demolition and sealing. It was on this promise that the people brought them to power, but the BJP has launched the sealing drive again. Even today thousands of properties have been left sealed with traders running around the MCD offices to get them de-sealed,” he said.

“The properties sealed years ago have not been de-sealed. But another sealing drive has begun. In every corner of the city, people are being issued sealing notices for not depositing the conversion charges for commercial use of residential property. People are living in fear of sealing.”

Mr. Sharma demanded resignation of BJP leaders in the Corporation in case the party fails to extend relief to the people from sealing. He also suggested that the conversion charges collected be used for providing adequate facilities to the traders.

“The MCD has so far collected Rs.759 crore in conversion charges from the traders but nothing has been spent on the development of parking space for them. It implies that the only aim of the BJP is to harass the traders on the ground of non-payment of conversion charges. The Congress party strongly opposes it and demands that traders be given adequate time for payment of conversion charges,” he added.
