NEW DELHI

‘A mandate for stability, progress’

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal on Saturday said the party won 7-0 in the Lok Sabha elections from the Capital because of “the dynamic leadership of party president Sonia Gandhi and the unmatched achievements of the party during its five-year rule at the Centre under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh”.

Mr. Agarwal, also the party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha from North-East Delhi, said the election results clearly proved that the people were not in favour of a fractured mandate and wanted stability, progress and development.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president O. P. Kohli was gracious in accepting defeat and said: “The people of the country wanted a stable and efficient government at the Centre and so they rejected the third and fourth fronts and voted for stability.”

But, he added, people also voted for the NDA and it would be wrong to say that it had been rejected.
