The Additional Sessions Judge, S K Garg, sentenced two dreaded terrorists Daljit Singh Bittu and Gursharan Singh Gama to life imprisonment.

The court ordered that besides life imprisonment under Section 302 (murder) of IPC, under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC, the convicts will have to remain in prison for seven years and pay a penalty of Rs 2000, under TADA sub-section 3 - ten years of imprisonment and Rs. 2,000 fine and under TADA sub-section 4 - ten years of jail and a penalty of Rs. 2,000.

The judge said all sentences will run concurrently and failure to pay fine in each case would attract six more months of imprisonment.

The terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on Ashok Bedi at about 7.30 pm on June 10, 1986, killing Ashok on the spot and injuring four of his friends seriously.

The terrorists were arrested from Anandhpur Sahib on April 14,1996 on the statement of an eyewitness - an arms dealer in the nearby shop of the deceased, the sources added. The relatives of the terrorists said they would appeal against the verdict in a higher court.
