Kiosks encroach on roads

NEW DELHI AUG. 10. The pavements on Press Enclave Road stretching from Aurobindo Marg on one side and Sheikh Sarai on the other in South Delhi have allegedly been encroached and were being used for running kiosks selling snacks.

Commuters taking the road face traffic jam, particularly in the evening when heavy traffic comes to this road from PVR Anupam and Mritt Hotel sides as customers visiting these shops park their vehicles on the road.

In the busy hours, the road has heavy traffic as commuters coming from All-India Medical Science, Hauz Khas and Green Park sides take this route for Sheikh Sarai, Greater Kailash-II and Nehru Place.

The land upon which these kiosks have come up belongs to the Delhi Development Authority. These shops also don't have licences of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi that is empowered to issues permits for running eateries in the Capital.

Though the DDA authorities agree that the land has been encroached upon, so far no action has been taken to remove them.

Despite complaints from residents of the area, the Traffic police have also not acted so far.
