Kidnapped child rescued

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. A nine-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi on January 23, has been recovered from Loni by the East Delhi police. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.

According to the police, Sachin, son of Lokesh, a resident of Kondli village in New Ashok Nagar, went missing after he had left for his school at Dallupura around 7-30 a.m. Lokesh approached the New Ashok Nagar police station and lodged a missing report. He also told the police that he suspected the hand of Sonu, who used to work at his small shop and had left the job a few days ago. The police registered a case of kidnapping and took up further investigations.

It came to light that the kidnapper had made a call to Lokesh's neighbour demanding Rs. 5 lakh as ransom. The phone was kept under observation. On January 24, around 7 p.m., the kidnapper called again around 7 p.m. and asked the complainant to reach behind the Kondli bridge with the ransom money.

A trap was laid but the kidnapper did not turn up. Again on January 25, a call was received around 5 p.m. in which Lokesh was asked to come by bus to Loni roundabout along with the ransom amount. A team led by Sub-Inspector Kishore Pandey reached the spot around 9-30 p.m. and arrested the accused when he appeared on the scene. At the instance of the accused, the child was rescued from the captivity of his brother behind Satyam cinema hall. His brother has also been arrested.

The accused, identified as Sonu, revealed that he knew Lokesh had earned some money recently in some deals and wanted to extort the same by kidnapping his child.
