Himachal unit bags many consultancy projects

SHIMLA, NOV.29. The Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, which has commissioned the prestigious 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri project and is a joint venture of the Centre and the Himachal Government, has entered into an agreement with Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, Mumbai (KRCL) for providing consultancy services for their railway tunnelling project between Katra and Laole of Udhampur - Srinagar - Baramula rail link in Jammu and Kashmir.

The consultancy services include training and know-how in preparation and supply of construction drawings of approach cuttings and excavation, supporting system and lining details of tunnels in different kind of rock and soil strata, informed a SJVN spokesperson here today.

The Corporation is also providing consultancy services in hydro-power sector to a number of other projects. Consultancy Services being provided include preparation of pre-feasibility reports, detailed project reports and engineering for dams, tunnels, and underground powerhouse by utilising the available technical expertise, he said.

Consultancy has been provided to Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for preparation of pre-feasibility report for Khab-I (450 MW) and Khab-II (186 MW) Hydro-electric Projects in Himachal Pradesh, Bobba Power Project Limited and Mount Kailash Power Projects in Bangalore, Karnataka for examining of techno economic viability of Mulibettu (10.5 MW) and Mannapitlu (15 MW) Hydro-electric Projects. The spokesman said the modalities are being finalized to provide consultancy services to Uttaranchal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL), Dehra Dun for designing a dam at river Song and various components of Maneri Bhali hydro-electric Project viz tunnel lining, butterfly valve house cavern, emulsifier and cooling water system, transformer deck slab and gate hoisting arrangement. Recently the Government of Chhattisgarh had approached SJVN to provide consultancy services for preparation of detailed project reports of five medium hydro-electric Projects located in Chhatisgarh, he said.

Meanwhile, the Company's flagship Nathpa Jhakri Project has generated more than 5500 million units of electricity worth about Rs. 1200 crores so far. Three 250 MW units of the project are currently in operation generating 750 MW of power to meet the peaking power requirements of the northern region. The average daily generation during the ongoing lean water flow in river Satluj is around 7 million units.
