CHANDIGARH: Haryana Finance Minister Birender Singh on Tuesday endorsed the policy of "one man one post'' in the Congress party.

However, he added while talking to media persons in Panchkula, party president Sonia Gandhi, should be excluded from this, as it was she who had revived the party a few years ago.

Mr. Birender Singh was replying to a question whether he would have any objection if he was made president of the Haryana unit of the

Congress, a post which he had held earlier too. Ms. Sonia Gandhi had been formally authorised to nominate the HPCC chief and if the mantle fell to him, he would certainly accept the offer, he said.

He disclosed that significant changes were being made in the education sector to improve the quality and this drive included establishment of model schools in every district of the State.

He said that one teacher would be recruited for 40 students to improve the quality of education.

Mr. Birender Singh clarified that villages which fall within the municipal limits would not be covered under the scheme of waiver of arrears of electricity bills but the villages getting power even from urban electricity feeders would benefited from the scheme. He said the scheme of waiver of arrears of electricity bills amounting to Rs. 1,600 crores had generated very encouraging response. There was a great rush at the cash collection centres as the consumers were coming in large numbers to deposit their electricity bills.

He said that Haryana would do everything to improve the connectivity between Panchkula and Chandigarh.
