DU karamcharis strike work on exam day

NEW DELHI, MARCH 24. With the Delhi University and College Karamchari Union's (DUCKU) protest strike against a change in their pay scale coinciding with the practical examination of Physics, it was a difficult day for most colleges here as they struggled to ensure that the exams were conducted smoothly.

Announced only a day before the exam, colleges were caught unaware with most coming to know about the strike only in the morning. With the Physics practical being the first one of the year and its theory paper being compulsory for all students, most colleges had no choice but to go ahead, even if only with limited help.

"Of the 25 colleges that were to conduct the exams, only three -- Ramjas, Hindu and Zakir Hussain College -- did not go ahead with the tests. We don't know what their reasons were and will be contacting them soon. But otherwise, most colleges did hold the exams as per the schedule,'' said Controller of Examination, B.S. Garg.
