DPCC reaches out to orphaned kids

NEW DELHI: Taking yet another step to send out the message that they were not alone and society stood by them, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Monday distributed uniforms, fruits and sweets to nearly 2,000 children, including those were orphaned in last month's bomb blasts in the Capital, to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Led by a team of DPCC leaders, Mr. Sharma first went to the children's orphanage at Arya Bal and Vatika Sadan in Darya Ganj and distributed winter uniforms, sweets and fruits to the children. Later, various delegations of Congress workers went across the Capital to distribute this package in various orphanages and to those children who were victims of the recent bomb blasts in the Capital. Mr. Sharma said the DPCC had promised to reach out to the children on Chacha Nehru's birth anniversary. He said the DPCC had decided to pay for the expenses, including education and upbringing, of those children who had lost their parents or kith and kin in the recent serial blasts in the Capital. He said a committee had been constituted in the DPCC to identify all such beneficiaries.
