Cops hurt in bid to nab eve-teaser

NEW DELHI, FEB. 26. Three Delhi police personnel, including a woman constable, sustained injuries when a young man in a Honda City car they were trying to stop for alleged eve teasing, sped away after hitting them at Maurice Nagar in North Delhi today. The police have launched a massive drive to trace the culprit.

The three police personnel, Sub-Inspectors Manoj Panth, Avinendra Jain and the woman constable, had been asked to lay a trap near the Delhi University campus as part of the drive against eve teasers. While the plainclothes personnel were standing by the roadside, a youngster in the Honda City stopped near the woman constable.

He allegedly passed some lewd remarks at her and opened the car's door, inviting her inside the vehicle. Noticing that the youngster was teasing the woman constable, the two S-Is, who were sitting in another vehicle at some distance, came out and ran towards the Honda City when the youngster realised that he had landed in trouble. He swiftly backed the vehicle without locking the front door of the non-driving side, which hit the woman constable in the leg and she fell on the road.

Meanwhile, Avinendra tried to enter the vehicle but had barely caught hold of the open door when the culprit reversed again dragging Avinendra for almost 10 metres. Having sustained bruises all over the body, he finally let go the grip and fell on the road. S-I Manoj also tried to stop the vehicle, but he too did not succeed. He sustained injuries, while the culprit fled from the scene. The injured were taken to a hospital for first-aid.
